We flew in yesterday at around noon via a 55 minute layover in Amsterdam. After waiting about 1/2 hour for Lauren's luggage (it didn't come), and asking all the police and security guards we could about where to get a stamp to establish date of entry into Spain (which we thought we needed for our residency cards - it turns out we don't), we got on the metro to our hostel, checked in and slept for 2 hours straight. KLM was kind enough to deliver the luggage later, and it actually worked out well as I had brought 2 bags which would have been quite a pain to carry around the metro...Lauren was pretty sweet in hauling the one around. Thanks Lauren! If we could only figure out a way to "lose" one of our bags to have it delivered later (for free and with a KLM discount!) when we train it to Sevilla...
After waking up around 5:30 local time, we decided to walk around the city a bit before it got dark, and without aid of a map found an amazing city park (el Parque de Retiro - think of Central Park only much more groomed and without tall buildings in the background, and a bit smaller), the Museo del Prado which we'll visit today, and lots of beautiful buildings. So excited to explore!
Here's just a couple shots more...
A view in the Parque del Retiro gardens, near the edge where you can see buildings. But they are beautiful buildings.
Lauren in front of a "bubbly tree" in the gardens. So much amazing trimming!

I used to love going to that park all the time! When I lived in Madrid, I could walk there...it's so huge!!! I love getting a coffee and sitting by the small lake thing...oh and on Sundays it's usually packed with hippies playing jimbay drums and other such cool instruments!
